Jakarta: President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is set to attend the ASEAN Summit in Bangkok, Thailand.
"Our prediction is the issue of the ASEAN Outlook on Indo-Pacific," said Director-General of ASEAN Cooperation at the Foreign Ministry Jose Tavares in Jakarta on Wednesday, October 30, 2019.
Jose added that the president will invite ASEAN partner countries to work together. He also said that Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi will also convey ideas related to the Indo-Pacific concept.
"Foreign Minister Retno will convey an idea to organize the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Infrastructure and Connectivity Forum which will be held in 2020," added Jose.
Aside from the Indo-Pacific, President Jokowi will also talk about the issues of the South China Sea, Rakhine State, disaster management, as well as toxic waste and counterterrorism.
The ASEAN Summit will be held in Bangkok, Thailand. The series of events will take place from Wednesday 30 October to 4 November 2019.
President Jokowi will attened the summit plenary meeting on November 2. On the next day, Jokowi is scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the ASEAN-China Summit, the ASEAN-India Summit and the ASEAN-UN Summit. On November 4, the President is scheduled to attend the ASEAN Plus 3 Summit, the East Asia Summit, the ASEAN-Japan Summit, the RCEP Summit, and the closing ceremony
The president is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with leaders of New Zealand, Australia, India, Japan, and the UN Secretary-General.
