Jakarta: Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi has offered her condelences to the victims of the massive blast in Lebanon's capital city of Beirut which resulted in the loss of lives and left thousands injured.
"My deepest condolences and sympathies go out to the families, people and Government of Lebanon following the massive explosion in Beirut," Retno said on her twitter page on Wednesday.
"Indonesia stands in solidarity with the people in Lebanon in this moment of sorrow," she said.
On Tuesday evening local time, a massive blast occured at the Port of Beirut. According to reports, the incident left at least 100 dead and thousands injured.
It is still unclear what exactly caused the explosion that occured at the Port of Beirut. Lebanon's Director General of Public Security Mahor General Abbas Ibrahim stated the massive blast was caused by high-explosive material that was confiscated and stored there for years.
"The location of the explosion is about 7 kilometers from the Indonesian Embassy in Beirut," the Indonesian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
"One of the injured victims is an Indonesian national. The Embassy has succeeded to contact the person. The person is currently in stable condition and can communicate with Embassy officials," it stated.
