Jakarta: Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is scheduled to attend the funeral of former Indonesian President Bacaharuddin Jusuf Habibie in Jakarta on Thursday afternoon.
Anwar Ibrahim's wife will also visit Habibie's residence in South Jakarta. She will be accompanied by Vice Industry Minister Shamsul Iskandar and other Malaysian officials.
"The Deputy Prime Minister will attend BJ Habibie's funeral to pay her last respect. She will also visit the funeral home in Kuningan," the Malaysian Foreign Ministry said in a written statement received by Medcom.id.
Indonesia's third president passed away at the age of 83 at the Gatot Soebroto Central Army Hospital in Central Jakarta at 06:05 PM Western Indonesia Time (WIB) on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. He died of old age.
Habibie was born in Pare Pare, South Sulawesi on June 25, 1936. He was the fourth child in a family of eight children.
Habibie was the third President of Indonesia. He led the country from May 1998 to October 1999.
Habibie is considered as the pioneer of the Indonesian aviation industry. He is also widely known as the country's Father of Technology.
"I and People's Justice Party offer condolences to his family," Malaysia's People's Justice Party chairman Anwar Ibrahim told the press last night.
