Jakarta: The Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi participated in the International Coordination Group (ICG) Teleconference to discuss the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (covid-19) pandemic.
Besides Retno, ministers from Turkey, South Africa, Singapore, Morocco, France, Canada, Australia, Germany, Brazil, Peru and the United Kingdom also joined the meeting.
During the meeting, Retno stressed the importance of partnerships and synergies to ensure safe international traffic and resilient supply chains amidst the limited movement of goods and people at the global level. To that end, she proposed a joint protocol or procedure regarding the process of returning people to their countries of origin.
"This is very important in order to break the chain of transmission and prevent imported cases," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release on Tuesday, April 7, 2020.
According to Retno, airports in Indonesia are open for evacuations of foreign nationals. At the same time, other countries are expected to facilitate the return of Indonesian citizens abroad, especially people who fulfill the health requirements.
Initiated by Canada, The ICG Forum aims as a routine coordination forum for foreign ministers of various countries. The main objective is to ensure the smooth handling of Covid-19.
