Jakarta: The ASEAN Women Interfaith Dialogue was held in the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta on Tuesday, November 12, 2019.
The theme of the event was “Promoting Understanding for an Inclusive and Peaceful Society”. The forum was attended by more than 125 participants from various faith-based communities, think-tanks as well as ASEAN partners.
Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi gave a video message during the event. The Indonesian top diplomat said that women should be able to become agents of peace, tolerance and prosperity.
"It’s about time to have women on our side working together to carry the banner of tolerance and moderation; becoming agents of peace, tolerance and prosperity," she was quoted by the Foreign Ministry's official twitter account as saying.
Last week, Indonesia participated at the UN Security Council briefing on the UN Police (UNPOL). Indonesia also highlighted the importance of increasing women's representation in the UNPOL.
The Indonesian delegation argued that the presence of female polices will improve the performance of peacekeeping missions. The delegation explained that the policy will also help protect civil society and prevent sexual violence.
