Jakarta: Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga today received a courtesy call from Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto.
In the meeting, Prime Minister Suga expressed his hope that the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia on the Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology will be the basis for deeper security cooperation between the two countries.
Regarding the situation in Myanmar, the Japanese Prime Minister condemned the ongoing crisis which continues to cause many casualties.
"Both parties agree on the importance of a free and open maritime order based on the rule of law," said the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta in a press release on Tuesday.
"The two parties also agree to promote infrastructure cooperation, including the Patimban port and the Jakarta MRT as well as the Java North Railway Line Upgrading Project," it stated.
On Sunday, the two Indonesian ministers arrived in Tokyo, Japan. Their main agenda is to hold the 2+2 Meeting between the foreign ministers and defense ministers of the two countries.
According to the Indonesian Foreign Ministry, this visit reflects the importance of the Indonesia-Japan Strategic Partnership. The first 2 + 2 meeting was held in Tokyo in 2015.
