Jokowi Receives Singaporean Parliament Members

Jakarta: President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo wants to strengthen economic cooperation between Indonesia and Singapore.
This was said by the President when he met with the chairman and members of the Singaporean parliament at the Merdeka Palace.
"We also need support at the parliamentary level because cooperation between parliaments needs to be supported and strengthened," Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta on Wednesday, November 20, 2019.

Retno said that Singapore's parliamentary support was needed amid global uncertainties and a slowdown in the world economy. Moreover, the ASEAN region has great potential for growth compared to countries in Europe and the Americas.
"The president quoted the Managing Director of the IMF which said ASEAN is a bright spot in our economy. It is a bright spot if we look at the world economic situation," she said.
The Governments of Indonesia and Singapore earlier agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of investment, infrastructure development and human resource development. The agreement was established in an annual retreat meeting between President Jokowi and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
"The president said that this was a G to G partnership," Retno said.
The Singaporeean lawmakers were Tan Chuan-Jin, Joan Pereira, Low Thia Khiang, Gan Thiam Poh, Henry Kwek, Saktiandi Supaat, Murali Pillai. They were accompanied by Singaporean Ambassador to Indonesia Anil Kumar Nayar and Deputy Ambassador of Singapore Jonathan Han.
