Jakarta: Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi attended the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Rohingya Muslim Minority in Myanmar at the UN headquarters in New York on Wednesday local time.
"None of us want to see further suffering of the people. A voluntary, safe and dignified repatriation is priority," said the top diplomat on her official twitter account on Thursday, September 26, 2019.
During the meeting, Minister Retno called for security guarantee and freedom of movement in Rakhine State. In addition, she also mentioned the need to hold dialog with refugees in order to build trust among all stakeholders.
Furthermore, she argued that repartiation should be supported by provisions of basic services. Lastly. she believes promotion of interfaith dialog can help bring peace to Rakhine State.
The Indonesian minister delivered a speech during a meeting to discuss the current situation in Rakhine State in the sidelines of the 74th UN General Assembly (UNGA) a day earlier.
The humanity crisis in Rakhine State is getting more concerning, especially following the failure of refugee repatriation from the State border last August and the increasing disbelief of all the elements with regards to the crisis settlement.
The main issue that hinders the humanity crisis settlement in Rakhine State is the distrust among the elements, refugees, and international communities. Establishing a conducive atmosphere is an urgent measure to take in order to reconstruct the trust of all parties. Indonesia and ASEAN have pursued this since the beginning of the process to solve the humanity crisis in Rakhine State.
