Jakarta: Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi today joined the 25th ASEAN Coordinating Council (ACC) video conference to discuss the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (covid-19) pandemic.
At the meeting, the Indonesian government proposed for ASEAN to have protocol for cross-border public health responses such as contact tracing and investigation.
According to Minister Retno, collective efforts between ASEAN member countries are vital in the fight against the pandemic in the region.
Second, the Indonesian government also underlined the importance of ASEAN's commitment to ensure unhindered flow of goods, especially food, medicine and medical equipment, in the midst of restrictions for the movement of people.
Third, the Indonesian government also urged other ASEAN member countries to protect their nationals, particularly migrant workers.
“We need to pay special attention to those with minimum wages, those who work on informal sectors and other vulnerable groups” Minister Retno said on her twitter page on Thursday, April 9, 2020.
