medcom.id, Nusa Dua: Democracy is not an end but a means to develop country and make people prosper, said Vice President Jusuf Kalla when he opened Bali Democracy Forum (BDF) VIII in Nusa Dua, Bali today (12/10/2015).
Kalla hoped participant countries could share their experiences on democracy in the forum. He said BDF is the right forum to discuss democracy. Indonesia and other participant countries were urged to find the best way to implement democracy.
Kalla explained each country has different experiences about democracy. Indonesia for example implemented parliamentarian democracy in 1950s, guided democracy in 1960s until 1990s and open democracy recently.
"We all have strength and weakness. We all need to learn how to implement democracy," said the Golkar politician.
BDF VII is attended by 89 countries and three international organizations including several ministers and vice ministers. Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi said the numbers of participants exceeds her expectation.
Theme for BDF this years is Democracy and Effective Public Governance which Retno said very relevant with current regional and global situation.
