Jakarta: Polical observer Ray Rangkuti said that Deputy Minister Posts were established only to appease poloitical parties.
“President Jokowi appointed mostly non-experienced party members instead of professionals to appear his supporting parties," Ray said here on Monday.
Ray cited the appointment of Zainut Tauhid Sa’adi as the Deputy Minister for Religious Affairs which was in response to protest by the Islamic organization, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU).
NU Criticized the appointment of an ex-military as the Religious Matters Minister. Previously, the post has been filled by a NU member. Meanwhile, Zainut is a politician from the United Development Party (PPP) and also a member of the Islamic organization.
Ray added that President Jokowi also tried to satisfy his volunteer group, Projo. The group threatened to disband if it it was no longer needed by the President.
After the threat, Jokowi later announced the appointment of the group’s chairman, Budi Arie Setiadi, as Deputy Minister for Rural Development and Transmigration.
“The fact that the other five Deputy Ministers posts have already been filled by political party members signals that this is for the purpose of satisfying the government coalition parties," said Ray.
Three Government Coalition parties who have yet to receive any political posts are, PKPI, PBB and Hanura Party. (Translator: Muhammad Gestinev)
