Jakarta: Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators are once again scheduled to probe Religious Affairs Ministry secretary general Nur Kholis Setiawan as a witness in an alleged bribery case involving former United Development Party (PPP) chairman Romahurmuziy.
"He will be summoned as a witness for RMY," KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah said here on Tuesday.
On March 15, KPK investigators arrested Romi during a sting operation in the East Java city of Surabaya. Along with Gresik Religious Affairs Agency head Muafaq Wirahadi and East Java Religious Affairs Agency head Haris Hasanuddin, KPK officials named Romi as a suspect in the case.
According to KPK, Romi accepted bribes to get Muafaq and Haris high-ranking jobs at the Religious Affairs Ministry. When asked about his case by journalists, Romi claimed that someone framed him.
As the recipient of the bribes, Romi will be charged of violating Article 12 a or Article 12 b or Article 11 of Law No. 31/1999 on Corruption Crime Eradication as amended by Law No.20/2001 juncto Article 55 (1) of the Criminal Code (KUHP).
As the bribers, Muafaq and Haris will be charged with Article 5 (1) b or (1) b or Article 13 of Law No. 31/1999 on Corruption Crime Eradication as amended by Law No. 20/2001.
The anti-corruption watchdog has summoned a number of Religious Affairs Ministry officials in the past few months. The agency is planning to question Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin on Wednesday.
"We have sent the letter to his office" the KPK spokesman told journalists last week.
