Jakarta: The Steering Committee for the Development of the Medan Merdeka Area rejected a proposal to build a Formula E track inside the National Monument (Monas) area. The decision was announced by the Steering Committee after holding a meeting with the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta.
"The Steering Committee does not approve if it is carried out within the National Monument area due to many considerations," said Secretary of the State Secretary Ministry, Setya Negara, here on Wednesday, 5 February 2020.
According to the official, Monas is a cultural heritage area. If a Formula E track is built within the Monas area, the Monas area needs to be paved.
"If it is outside Monas, it could be permitted," Setya added.
The Steering Committee did not prohibit if Monas is used as a prize presentation event area. Nevertheless, the Steering Committee has not issued an offcial permission.
Indonesia was recently named as one of the hosts of the Formula E for the 2019-2020 season. FIA Formula E announced the race will be held in the capital of Indonesia on June 6, 2020.
Monas and is the surrounding areas is planned to become the Formula E race arena. The proposal was confirmed by the Formula E Co-Founder & Chief Championship Officer, Alberto Longo.
"The calendar for the upcoming season of ABB FIA Formula E Championship has been officially made as special as possible. We have also added another racing schedule in Asia and in particular Indonesia which is very interesting," Longo said on the official website of the FIA Formula E.
Formula E will be followed by 24 racers who are divided into 12 teams. Four of these teams are well-known German manufacturer teams, namely Porsche, BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz.
