Jakarta: United States (US) Ambassador to Indonesia Sung Kim has officially handed over 83 brand-new ventilators for use in Central Java Province.
The handover ceremony was held virtually on Friday.
According to the US ambassador, these 83 ventilators are a portion of the 1,000 ventilators that the US has donated to Indonesia through the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to assist its fight against covid-19.
“These ventilators will support Central Java’s hospitals in treating patients with the disease. We are proud to cooperate on disease prevention, diagnostics, and capacity building– through USAID, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, US businesses, and other partners,” said the US Ambassador in a press release on Monday.
The US Government assistance provided includes accompanying equipment, warranties, and shipping. Also through USAID, the US is funding training for health workers in using the equipment along with standard operating procedures and maintenance so that hospitals can help more patients recover. Beyond this donation, US emergency assistance to support Indonesia’s fight against covid-19 totals approximately $11 million.
"These state-of-the-art ventilators are very useful. The assistance reflects primarily on the good relationship between Indonesia and the United States. We thank the US government and USAID for their assistance and look forward to continuing the strong collaboration in other sectors," said Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo.
