Jakarta: The Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR) supports the establishment of Central Papua Province.
The message was delivered during a meeting between the DPR Commission II and the Advisory Team on the Establishment of Central Papua Province.
The DPR Commission II Chairman, Ahmad Doli Kurnia, said that the establishment of new provinces in Papua eregion can bring about prosperity and economic welfare. He asked the plan to be immediately realized.
“There must be a dispersion of new public service centers and economic centers," Doli said here on Wednesday.
“We have often held intensive communication on the current condition in Papua,” he added.
The team's coordinator Willem Wandik said that seven indigenous communities have agreed on the plann. The Puncak Jaya regent hopes that the study can be completed in December.
“When we held discussion with the President, he asked for the plan to be carried out according to the local culture,” said Willem. (Translator: Muhammad Gestinev)
