Jakarta: Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) threatens to forcefully summon Lippo Group CEO James Riady as a witness in an alleged bribery case related to Meikarta property project. James recently failed to fulfill KPK's summons without giving a proper reasoning.
"Investigators have not yet received the reasoning for the absence," said KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah at the KPK Building, Jakarta on Thursday, December 12, 2019.
"If you do not attend without a proper reasoning, then we can send another summons to you or request assistance from officers to pick you up," said KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah at the KPK Building, Jakarta on Thursday, December 12, 2019.
The anti-corruption watchdog is currently preparing another summons for the Lippo CEO. James is expected to be cooperative and obedient to the legal process.
"At this time, investigators will compile the next steps so that witnesses can attend and obey the laws," he concluded.
In February 2019, the KPK prosecutors opened a recording of the conversation between the Head of the Land Acquisition and Permit Division of PT Lippo Cikarang Edi Dwi Soesianto and Bartholomeus. During the conversation, Bartholomeus told Edy that James and Billy Sindoro wanted to meet Bekasi Regent Neneng Hasanah Yasin.
After the conversation, James and Billy reportedly met with Neneng at the regent's official residence in early January 2018. According to the prosecutors' indictment, James's meeting with Neneng was allegedly related to the Meikarta project.
