Jakarta: Johan Budi stepped down as presidential spokesperson after he was elected as a house of Representatives (DPR) member in this year's legislative elections.
Johan has bid farewell to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. He will officially leave the position on Monday, September 16, 2019.
"I have been elected as a DPR member for the 2019-2024 period. So I will step down from this position," the former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesman said here on Friday, September 13, 2019.
"Thank you for your support. All of you are amazing," he added.
Indonesia held its first ever simultaneous general and presidential elections on April 17. Voters elected the president, vice president as well as members of national and local legislative bodies on the same day.
This year, 16 national political parties participated at the national level. In the meantime, Four local political parties only participated in Aceh province.
Johan run as a PDI Perjuangan legislative candidate in East Java province. He collected 76,395 votes.
