Jakarta: Chairman of the Indonesian Communion of Churches (PGI), Gomar Gultom, has instructed churches to establish self-isolation rooms for covid-19 patients.
This was stated by Gomar when PGI leaders held a virtual discussion with Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD this week.
"We urge churches to transform dormitories and guest houses into self-isolation rooms," said Gultom in a written statement on Thursday.
Gomar stressed that PGI will aid the government in handling the covid-19 pandemic.
"Several churches have participated in supporting the economic programs," he said.
PGI General Secretary, Jacky Manuputty, suggested the government to hold humanitarian solidarity movement that involve religious leaders.
According to him, everyone has to work together with the government in handling the covid-19 pandemic.
"Pak Mahfud hopes that we could hold national solidarity movement," Jacky said.
He stressed that PGI has been aiding the government by providing manpower and strength in handling covid-19.
"Churches in Jakarta and South Sulawesi have been used as self-isolation centres with the help of available medical personnel,” he added. (Translator: Natasha Celia)
