Jakarta: People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Chair Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) welcomed the proposal for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to enter the constitution. Bamsoet considered including the proposal as a point for the amendments to the 1945 Constitution.
"If the public urges, then indeed the KPK must be included in the 1945 Constitution, why not?" said Bamsoet in commemoration of World Anti-Corruption Day (Hakordia) 2019 at the KPK Support Building, Jakarta on Monday, December 9, 2019.
KPK Deputy Chairman Saut Situmorang previously proposed that the amendments to the 1945 Constitution also discuss the anti-corruption agency. The move is so that Indonesia will consistently eradicate corruption.
"Anti-corruption bodies must enter the constitution in our country. Not only to talk about the first and second periods (presidential term)," Saut said in a Crosscheck by Medcom.id discussion entitled 'Stop the Corruption Penalty Discount' at Upnormal Coffee and Roasters, Jalan Wahid Hasyim, Menteng, Central Jakarta on Sunday, December 8, 2019
The government needs to be more consistent in upholding corruption eradication. This is because Indonesia has ratified many international anti-corruption declarations.
According to him, other countries are consistent in combating corruption. As many as 81 countries have specifically included anti-corruption agencies in their constitutions.
Saut believes that the policy will maximize corruption eradication efforts. Because the state budget will also be more in line with efforts to eradicate corruption.
