Jakarta: Media Group is preparing a foundation that will oversee the Medcom.id Online Scholarship Competition (OSC) program in 2020. The foundation is named Surya Edukasi Bangsa Foundation.
Medcom.id's CEO, Mirdal Akib said, the foundation will focus on developing education sector in Indonesia. It is hoped that the Surya Edukasi Bangsa Foundation can participate in helping the government in building skilled human resources.
"Because for Indonesia to be superior, it requires superior human resources. Whereas to be able to get superior human resources, it needs the best education that is equal for all the sons and daughters of this nation," he explained.
Going forward, the Media Group will invite all stakeholders and the people of Indonesia to participate in realizing quality education through the Surya Edukasi Bangsa Foundation.
In addition, starting from this year the OSC Community has also been developed. This community will later become a medium of communication and information for the winners, finalists, participants, and scholarship hunters throughout Indonesia.
As is known, Medcom.id's OSC program has experienced rapid progress since it was first held in 2015. It is not only seen from the increasing number of higher education scholarship partners, but also the enthusiasm of students to join this program.
Based on OSC data, the number of scholarship recipients when it was first held in 2015 only reached 50 people. The number has quadrupled in 2016 with 200 scholarship recipients. Then it increased to 240 scholarship recipients in 2017, then 360 scholarship recipients in 2018.
"This year, the number of scholarship recipients has increased to 420 people with 21 private universities that provide scholarships worth Rp40 billion," said Mirdal.
Online Scholarship Competition (OSC) is the first online scholarship competition in Indonesia, held by the news and video portal Medcom.id. OSC is here to provide convenience for Indonesian students in order to continue their education up to an Undegraduate Degree (S1) by using scholarships provided by OSC partners.
OSC is a collaboration program between Medcom and private universities through its role as a scholarship provider. With OSC participants no longer need to come physically to tertiary institutions to enroll, but simply follow the initial online registration and selection process.
OSC simplifies the process, starting with registration and initial testing conducted through an online system. OSC has now entered its 5th year, in collaboration with 21 renowned private universities in Indonesia, which are located in eight different cities (Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Malang, Surabaya, Makassar and Makassar).
OSC is expected to be able to support the tertiary education that facilitates high-achieving students from various groups throughout Indonesia. Because in order to get excellent human resources, Indonesia must have a balanced education system for all the nation’s children.
