Surabaya: East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa guaranteed that the province is free from coronavirus outbreak. She stressed that the outbreak has not reached Indonesia's second most populous province.
"Thank God, there is no indication that the coronavirus outbreak has reached East Java. Nevertheless, we must stay vigilant," the former social affairs minister said here on Friday, January 24, 2020.
Previously, Khofifah intructed all public hospitals in East Java to raise their awareness. In addition, she also ordered East Java Health Agency officials to continuously monitor health services in the province.
"We also activated the Quick Response which will be supervised by the East Java Health Agency," she noted.
Moreover, the East Java provincial administration also increased coordination with port and airport operators. It hopes the operators can closely observe the influx of people and goods from China.
"The thermal scanner at the International Arrival Terminal at Juanda Airport's Terminal 2 must be activited for 24 hours a day and seven days a week," she remarked.
Khofifah had also urged regional leaders in East Java to maintain public order in their respective region. She wants people in East Java to stay calm and continue to do their daily actitivies.
"It is important to give a clear explanation to the public in order to make them calm," she stated.
"However, we should be alert if we see symptoms of pneumonia like fever, cough and shortness of breath," she concluded.
