Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has announced the formation of his new cabinet. He has also revaled the changes in nomenclature in his new cabinet.
First, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs was changed into the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs. The ministry is led by Luhut Binsar Panjaitan.
"I think innovations related to Indonesia's global maritime fulcrum doctrine, eradication of investment challenges and implementation of investment commitments are on his hands," President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said here on Wednesday, October 23, 2019.
In addition, President Jokowi also introduced the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. It is the successor of the Ministry of Tourism.
The ministry is led by Wishnutama Kusbandrio. He was asked to develop new tourist destinations and support local industries.
Furthermore, President Jokowi also introduced the Ministry of Research and Technology/the National Research and Innovation Agency. It was previously part of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education.
Jokowi explained that the Directorate General of Higher Education was merged with the Ministry of Education and Culture. The new Minister of Education and Culture is Nadiem Makarim.
Jokowi announced 34 ministers and four high-ranking officials this morning. He asked members of his new cabinet to avoid corrupt practices.
"Create a system that can prevent corruption," he told his minister during the press conference.
