Jakarta: The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has softened its stance on the creation of the KPK Supervisory Board which will be inaugurated in Desember.
“We are delighted to be supervised although previously there has been controversy about the statutory articles concerning the establishment of the supervisory board," Febri said here on Tuesday, November 5, 2019.
Previously, KPK strongly rejected the establishment of the supervisory board. According to the anti-corruption watchdog, it might weaken KPK.
The law stipulates that KPK should ask the supervisory board's permission before confucting tapping, raid and confiscation. Febri argues that the supervisory board should not intervene law enforcement activities.
“KPK is delighted to be supervised and it is really open to the idea," said Febri.
In addition, the former Indonesia Corrupion Watch (ICW) activist said that the members of the supervisory board should be elected according to competence. He hopes that the elected members have great track record.
“Integrity and competence are keys,” he said. (Translator: Muhammad Gestinev)
