Indonesia held its first ever simultaneous general and presidential elections on April 17. Voters elected the president, vice president as well as members of national and local legislative bodies on the same day.
The General Elections Commission (KPU) concluded the vote recapitulation process at the national level on May 21. KPU named the incumbent as the winner of the 2019 presidential race.
Not long afterwards, opposition leader Prabowo Subianto expressed his rejection to the KPU's official tabulation result. Few days later, his campaign team filed a legal challenge over accusations of extensive and systematic fraud in the presidential election.
MK kicked off the first trial of the presidential election dispute this morning. It is expected to deliver its ruling on June 28.
