Jakarta: The Organizing Committee of Formula E Jakarta has stated the planned Formula E race in Indonesia's capital will be rescheduled to another date.
The city initially planned to host a Formula E race on June 6, 2020. However, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan recentlyy decided to postpone the event due to the outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19).
"The step is taken as a preventive measure due to the development of Covid-19 outbreak," Dwi Wahyu Daryoto, the chairman of the organizing commitee, said in a press release issued on Wednesday, March 11, 2020.
"We want to protect public safety in Indonesia, especially in the capital," he added.
Besides Jakarta, Formula E has also postponed Formula E races in Sanya, China and Rome, Italy. Sanya ePrix was supposed to be held on March 21, 2020, while Rome ePrix was supposed to be held on April 4, 2020.
"After having an intensive discussion with Formula E Operations (FEO) and other stakeholders, we agreed to postpone Jakarta e-Prix," he stated.
