Jakarta: Indonesia's Covid-19 Handling Task Force on Wednesday confirmed 5,534 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Indonesia to 511,836.
From Tuesday noon to Wednesday noon, there were 4,494 recovered covid-19 patients and 114 confirmed covid-19 deaths across Indonesia.
As of Wednesday, the Indonesian goverment has recorded 429,807 recovered covid-19 patients and 16,225 confirmed covid-19 deaths.
To tackle the spread of coronavirus, Indonesian people have been urged to implement strict health protocols such as wearing face masks, regularly washing hands and always maintaining safe distance.
In addition, the Indonesian government has distributed medical supplies, including personal protective equipment (PPE), portable ventilators, pcr test kits, and reagents.
Early this week, Head of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) Penny Lukito said the safety aspect of the covid-19 vaccine candidate developed by state-owned pharmaceutical company Bio Farma in partnership with private Chinese biopharmaceutical firm Sinovac Biotech was good.
Moreover, Penny stated that BPOM is committed to providing vaccines that meet efficacy, safety, and effectiveness.
If the safety and effectiveness aspects can be obtained, BPOM can provide Emergency Use Authorization (EUA).
