Jakarta: The Government has declared three days of mourning following the passing of former President Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie.
"We urge people to fly red and white flag at half-mast until September 14. We declare three days of mourning until September 14," State Secretary Minister Pratikno told reporters this evening.
Indonesia's third president passed away at the age of 83 at the Gatot Soebroto Central Army Hospital in Central Jakarta at 06:05 PM Western Indonesia Time (WIB) on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. He died of old age.
Habibie was born in Pare Pare, South Sulawesi on June 25, 1936. He was the fourth child in a family of eight children.
Habibie was the third President of Indonesia. He led the country from May 1998 to October 1999.
Habibie is considered as the pioneer of the Indonesian aviation industry. He is also widely known as the country's Father of Technology.
The co-founder of state-owned aerospace firm PT Dirgantara Indonesia will be buried at the Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta tomorrow. The funeral ceremony will be led by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.
