Jakarta: Indonesia officially filed its bidding document to FIFA, the world soccer governing body, for hosting the U-20 World Cup 2021.
FIFA noted on its official website on Thursday that the All Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) officially submitted Indonesia’s bid to hold the event.
For hosting the event, Indonesia will go neck to neck with Brazil and Peru that had also submitted formal bids.

FIFA will conduct its review and assessment of the bids prior to taking a final decision on the host of the event at its meeting on October 23-24, 2019, in Shanghai, China.
U-20 World Cup is FIFA's second-oldest competition. In its history, the event has historically served as a springboard for the world's top soccer players, including Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi, Mohamed Salah, and Paul Pogba.
For Indonesia, to host U-20 World Cup will facilitate its bid for World Cup 2034.
PSSI Secretary General Ratu Tisha Destria had remarked in last June that for hosting the World Cup 2034, the association must have experience in organizing a FIFA-level competition.
The PSSI has organized several international tournaments, though none of them reaching the FIFA level. (Antara)
