Jakarta: The Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor) has given a not guilty verdict to former PT PLN President Director Sofyan Basir.
The court has stated that the prosecutors' indictments cannot be proven.
"Stating the defendant Sofyan Basir was not proven guilty regarding his first and second indictments," said Judge Hariono at the Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor), Central Jakarta on Monday, 4 November 2019.
Ordering Sofyan Basir to be immediately released," he added.
Sofyan previously faced five years in prison and a fine of Rp 200 million. He was indicted with engaging in bribery practices in the Riau-1 power plant project.
Sofyan is also free from the threat of Article 12 letter a juncto Article 15 of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 on Corruption Eradication juncto Article 56 of the Criminal Code.
Prosecutors accused Sofyan of facilitating a meeting between former People’s Representative Council (DPR) member Eni Maulani Saragih, former Party of Functional Groups (Golkar) Secretary-General Idrus Marham, and businessman Johannes Budisutrisno Kotjo to discuss the Riau-1 PLTU project. The prosecutors considered the discussion to have an element of corruption
