Jakarta: The Speaker For the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani said several ministries would be merged in the Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin government. This information was obtained after the DPR leadership met President Joko Widodo.
Puan gave an example that the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) may be merged with the Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti). She said these two nomenclatures would be merged into one.
"The Dikti (Higher Education) will be with the Ministry of Education and Culture because the Ministry of Research and Technology will become a body," Puan said at the Parliament Building on Monday, October 21, 2019.
According to Puan, this change will not result in a massive reorganization. "The principle is that the DPR then approves, and because it has been decided by the DPR, it means there isn't a problem," he added.
In addition to Kemenristekdikti and Kemendikbud, three other ministries that are to be changed are the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs, the Ministry of Tourism, and the Creative Economy Agency. However, the politician stressed that the certainty of the decision is awaiting an official announcement from President Joko Widodo.
"Later, in time, of course, the president will deliver a message and announce the approval. The merged ministries will later cooperate with any committee," she said.
