Jakarta: Caretaker of the Tebuireng Islamic School, Jombang, East Java, Salahuddin Wahid (Gus Sholah) has passed away. Gus Sholah passed away in Harapan Kita Hospital, Jakarta, Sunday, at around 20.55 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).
"Gus Sholah just passed away, at 20.55 WIB. Please forgive all his mistakes," said Gus Sholah's son, Irfan Wahid (Ipang Wahid), Jakarta on Sunday, February 2, 2020.
Gus Sholah has been treated at Harapan Kita Hospital for several days. The younger brother of the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur underwent surgery due to a problem with his heart.
After the operation, Gus Sholah's condition continued to decline. He even had to go through critical periods before finally dying.
Based on information gathered, Gus Sholah is known as a charismatic scholar. Gus Sholah is a figure from the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board and grandson of Nahdlatul Ulama founder Kiyai Haji Hasyim Asy'aari.
Gus Sholah has also been known as a figure across the world of Indonesian politics. He even ran as a vice presidential candidate in pairs with former Indonesian Armed Forces Commander Wiranto. However, both of them lost in the first round of the 2004 presidential election.
Gus Sholah is also known to be active in the field of human rights. He also served as deputy chairman of the National Human Rights Commission.
