Minister Says Govt to Sink Captured Illegal Fishing Vessel

Makassar: Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo asserted that he would not release the recently-captured Malaysian-flagged illegal fishing vessel. He said that he would sink the ship.
"I am not afraid to sink the ship. It is not just jargon. It must become reality," said Edhy in Makassar, South Sulawesi on Sunday, December 1, 2019.
He said that the vessel captured by the Hiu 12 Fishing Patrol Vessel in the waters of the Malacca Strait on Friday, November 29, 2019. It is currently awaiting a court ruling.

"This is proof that we take this issue seriously," he explained.
He stressed that his ministry would not release the Malaysian fishing vessel. The legal process regarding foreign ships illegally entering Indonesia will not be ignored.
"Not only Malaysia, we have also captured foreign vessels in the waters of North Sulawesi near Bitung region. These ships are from the Philippines. They have been arrested and are to be handed over to the court," he explained.
