Jakarta: The Ministry of Research and Technology / the National Research and Innovation Agency has unveiled several agendas on renewable energy in the 2020-2024 National Research Priorities.
According to the Ministry, innovations and technological readiness are required to ensure national energy security and to change energy composition tendency to renewable energy.
“The final target is certainly to boost (the use of) renewable energy in the national energy mix in 2024,” Minister of Research and Technology / Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency Bambang Brodjonegoro told the press at the Presidential Office in Jakarta on Tuesday, as quoted from the Cabinet Secretariat's website.
According to Bambang, there are five primary agendas regarding renewable energy in the 2020-2024 National Research Priorities.
First, there is a target of producing plant-based fuel with raw material that is 100 percent oil palm.
Second is biogas, which is widely used, especially in oil palm plantations.
Third is regarding small-scale geothermal power plants. Fourth is electric battery.
Lastly, the Government continues to develop nuclear technology to ensure fulfillment of electricity needs when Indonesia’s economy continues to grow in the future.
Bambang further said that concerning the Paris Agreement and the green economy that President Jokowi demands, his Ministry is also developing research based on the circular economy, adding that all this time the economy has been linear, which has caused unmanaged waste.
