South Sumatra Governor Encourages People to Support Covid-19 Vaccination Program

Jakarta: South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru has encouraged the public to support the upcoming covid-19 vaccination program in the province.
"There is no reason to refuse the vaccine," said the governor here on Thursday.
According to him, the South Sumatra provincial goverment has received around 30 thousand doses of covid-19 vaccine from the central government and is ready to launch the vaccination program in the region.

Nevertheless, authorities are still waiting for the emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) and halal certificate from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).
"We are ready. South Sumatra has received the vaccine. We also have prepared storages in all regencies and cities," Herman explained.
In a bid to achieve herd immunity, 181 million Indonesian people must get the vaccine.
Taking into account that one person needs two doses of vaccine, as well as guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO) to prepare 15 percent for reserves, the total doses needed are approximately 426 million doses.
