Jakarta: Charta Politika Indonesia Executive Director, Yunarto Wijaya, has said that bureaucrats and professionals should be appointed as deputy miinisters at certain important ministries.
“These experienced deputy ministers can then assist their ministers," Yunarto said here on Thursday, October 24, 2019.
“Ideally, the vice minister posts should be taken by people who have already had experience in the ministerial bureaucracy," said Yunarto.
Yunarto also said that the President is under pressure from his government coalition parties to distribute the majority of the posts to party members instead of professionals.
"However, we do not actually know whether these experienced people will be appointed as Vice Ministers," he said.
According to Yunarto, the addition of vice minister posts in the Indonesia Onward cabinet will be similar to that under the SBY’s government for the 2009-2014 period, where at that time there were 19 Vice-Minister posts.
“It is not about the addition. But it should be more about how well these future Vice- Ministers can perform their duties and responsibilities in helping their Ministers for public interest,” said Yunarto. (Translator: Muhammad Gestinev)
