Jakarta: Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party politician Ahmad Riza Patria has been picked as the new Jakarta deputy governor.
"Based on the result of the voting, Ahmad Riza Patria is the elected Jakarta deputy governor," Jakarta Regional Legislative Council Speaker Prasetyo Edi Marsudi said here on Monday, April 6, 2020.
The Gerindra Party official won against Properous Justice Party (PKS) politician Nurmansjah Lubis. He was supported by 81 Jakarta Regional Legislative Council members.
"Candidate 1 Ahmad Riza Patria received 81 votes. Candidate 2 Nurmanjah Lubis got 17 votes. Two votes were invalid," The Deputy Governor Election Committee head Farazandi Fidinansyah stated.
The Jakarta deputy governor position has been vacant since August 2018. The seat has been competed between Gerindra Party and PKS for months.
Previous Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno stepped down from his position after he was appointed as Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto's running mate in the 2019 presidential race. He and current Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan won the Jakarta gubernatorial election in 2017.
