Jakarta: Indonesia's Covid-19 Handling Task Force on Tuesday reported 10,047 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Indonesia to 846,765.
From Monday noon until Tuesday noon, the total number of recovered coronavirus patients in the country increased by 7,068 to 695,807.
Within the same period, Indonesia's official covid-19 death toll was up by 302 to 24,645.
The Indonesian government is set to launch the covid-19 vaccination program on Wednesday after Sinovac's covid-19 vaccine received emergency use authorization (eua) from the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) early this week.
Last week, the Fatwa Commission of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) declared that the Sinovac covid-19 vaccine is halal.
In a bid to achieve herd immunity, 181 million Indonesian people must get vaccinated.
Taking into account that one person needs two doses of vaccine as well as guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO) to prepare 15 percent for reserves, the total doses needed are approximately 426 million doses.
