New Minister to Continue Ship-Sinking Policy

Jakarta: Newly-appointed Fisheries and Marine Affairs Minister Edhy Prabowo promised to continue the policy of sinking boats found to be illegally fishing in Indonesia's waters.
 
The policy was introduced by Edhy Prabowo's predecessor, Susi Pudjiastuti.
 
"We will continue carrying out this policy to preserve our national sovereignty," Edhy said here on Monday, October 28, 2019.

He also mentioned that there are also other marine-related problems besides the trespassing of foreign boats.
 
“Our next challenge is to show the countries to which these illegal foreign boats belong that we are really committed to protecting our sovereign territorial waters," he said
 
He said that he will cooperate with the Police, through its 115 task force, and the Navy to increase supervision.
 
“We must increase our supervision by also increasing our boats’ capabilities relative to those of foreign boats and also by carrying out cooperation with the 115 task force and the Navy.” He said.
 
He hopes that the cooperation with the Navy and the Police will be fruitful.
