Jakarta: Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian plans to cooperate with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to improve the absorption of regional budgets.
The former National Police chief wants to make sure the budgets are used accordingly.
"We know that next year approximately IDR800 trillion of the budget will be transferred to various regions, provinces, regencies, and cities," said Tito at the Ministry of the Home Affairs in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, October 30, 2019.
"This requires guidance," the police general added.
He esplained that the collaboration of the two institutions is intended as an effort to supervise the absorption of regional budgets. He revealed that there are several inputs from the Anti-Corruption Commission regarding budget management.
"These inputs are very important for the Ministry of Home Affairs, especially inputs for the 2020 action plan," said Tito.
In December 2019, he will invite all regional heads to prevent any deviation. Activities in at the local level should be in line with President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's priority programs.
KPK Deputy Chairman Alexander Marwata stated that the anti-corruption watchdog will highlight the President's vision and mission in the regional work programs. He added KPK will coordinate further with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
"Regarding infrastructure, human resources development, investment, it is the concern of the president, the KPK will also focus on those areas," said Alex.
