Jakarta: The Party of Functional Groups (Golkar) politician Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) agreed that the parliamentary threshold should be raised.
"Indeed, the threshold should be increased from time to time. So, I propose 6-7 percent in the future," said the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) speaker at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta on Tuesday, January 14, 2020.
Bamsoet believes the move will be able to surpress the number of parties in the House of Representatives (DPR). If the threshold is not regulated, the country's political system can become more complicated.

The Golkar politician will propose the increase to the Golkar’s Central Executive Board (DPP). "I will propose to Golkar," he said.
The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) proposed an increase in the parliamentary threshold at its national working meeting (Rakernas). The party said the threshold should be increased from 4 percent to 5 percent.
"That is in the context of realizing presidential system and effective government, strengthening and simplifying the political system and creating cheap elections," said PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto.
