Jakarta: The Jakarta Regional Legislative Council has revealed that the election of the new Jakarta deputy governor will be held on April 6, 2020.
The council initially planned to conduct the election on Friday, March 27, 2020. They then decided to postpone the election due to radiply increasing confirmed cases of covid-19 in Indonesia's capital.
"It is based on Governor's Order, the National Police's Order and advice from the central government," the Jakarta Regional Legislative Council deputy speaker M Taufik said here on Thursday, March 26, 2020.
"We should follow their recommendations," he stated.
As of Wednesday, March 25, 2020, the central government has recorded 790 confirmed covid-19 cases, 31 recoveries and 58 deaths.
Previous Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno stepped down from the position after he was picked as Prabowo Subianto's running mate in the 2019 presidential race. The vacant seat will be competed by Gerindra Party politician Ahmad Riza Patria and PKS politician Nurmansjah Lubis.
