Jakarta: President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said that he will carefully pick the members of the Corruption Eradication Corupption (KPK) Supervisory Board. He stressed that the KPK Supervisory Board members should have good track record.
"We don't want to make wrong decisions that can draw criticism from the public," President Jokowi said here on Friday, December 13, 2019.
The former Jakarta governor revealed that he is currently finalizing the selection process. He hinted that the KPK Supervisory Board members will be announced during the inauguration of the KPK leadership for the 2019-2023 period.
"It is not yet completed," he added.
Several figures are rumored to be KPK Supervisory Board member candidates. Some of them are KPK Selection Committee member Indriyanto Seno Adji, Attorney General's Office (AGO) official Adi Toegarisman, Gadjah Mada University professor Marcus Priyo Gunarta, former KPK chairman Taufiqurrachman Ruki and former Law and Human Rights Minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra.
The establishment of the supervisory board is based on Law Number 19 of 2019 concerning the KPK. There will be five members of the supervisory board.
The KPK Supervisory Board will be authorized to oversee the KPK's activities. In addition, it will have rights to give permits regarding wiretapping, searches, and seizures.
