Palembang: The South Sumatera Provincial Administration inked a letter of capability to become the U-20 World Cup host after FIFA appointed Indonesia to hold the event in 2021.
“We are now ready to host the event, and all requirements have been fulfilled,” South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru stated here on Sunday, October 27, 2019.
According to the governor, the management of the Gelora Sriwijaya Jakabaring Stadium will be ordered to ready the necessary infrastructure.
“The field, grass, and also safety requirement, as well as other technical conditions shall be prepared,” he remarked.
Furthermore, the citizens of South Sumatera, especially in Palembang, should be ready to welcome this international soccer event.
“I expect the event will also boost the people’s economy,” he noted.
The announcement was made at the FIFA Council Meeting in Shanghai, China, on Thursday, October 24, 2019. Jakabaring Stadium was then named as one of the host venue candidates. The staidum was earlier a venue for the Asian Games XVIII in 2018. (Antara)
