Jakarta: Indonesian People's Front for West Papua (FRI-WP) chairperson Paulus Suryanta Ginting claimed on want to become the president of Papua. The statement was made by Suryanta when questioned by police investigators.
"When he was interrogated, the suspect was asked what he wanted to be? I want to be the president of Papua, he said," said Jakarta Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono in Jakarta on Monday, September 23, 2019.
Argo did not know the meaning of Suryanta's statement. "Suddenly speaking out when he was examined," explained Argo.
Suryanta was one of five suspects in an alleged treason case and was detained by the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) at the Mobile Brigade Command Headquarters (Mako), Kelapa Dua, Depok, West Java.
He was accused of masterminding the bintang kejora flag rising in front of the State Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday, August 28, 2019.
Five other people who were also arrested were Dano Tabuni, Charles Cossay, Ambrose Mulait, Isay Wenda and Wenebita Wasiangge. Suryanta and five of his colleagues were charged under Articles 106 and 110 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) relating to national security.
