Jakarta: The first sting operation (OTT) of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) under the leadership of Firli Bahuri proved that the government does not intervene in the Anti-Corruption Institution. The KPK under Firli is believed to continue to fight corruption.
"This shows that the KPK still has very strong powers. So there is no need for debate about it (the KPK is weakened)," Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said in his office, the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta on Wednesday, January 8, 2020.
Pramono stressed the government will never weaken the KPK. He said the strengthening of the KPK will affect the government.
"Because after all, fighting corruption will be better if the KPK is strong. Who benefits? The government in this matter," he said.
KPK arrested Sidoarjo Regent Saiful Ilah and a number of people in Sidoarjo Regency, East Java. This operation is related to a case of alleged corruption in the procurement of goods and services.
This is the first OTT of the KPK under the leadership of Firli. The KPK has 1x24 hours to determine the legal status of Saiful and other parties arrested.
