Jakarta: House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Bambang Soesatyo has appreciated President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's decision to give around 55 percent of ministerial positions to professionals.
"I think it is a correct decision," the Golkar Party lawmaker said here on Thursday.
Bambang stressed that appointing ministers is the president's prerogative. He believes that the appointed ministers are competent and reliable persons.
"He will choose the best people to support his five-year working plan," Bambang explained.
President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo earlier revealed that he has determined the formation of the upcoming cabinet. He said that the new cabinet can be announced in the near future.
"It can be announced in the near future. It can also be announced in October. But I see that market wants me to announce it soon," President Jokowi told a group of media leaders here on Wednesday.
According to President Jokowi, around 55 percent of ministerial positions will be filled by professionals. On the other hand, the remaining ministerial positions will be filled by politicians from coalition party members.
President Jokowi plans to establish a number of new ministries and merge several existing ministries. The government currently has 34 ministries.
