Jakarta: People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Bambang "Bamsoet" Soesatyo decided to end his bid for Functional Groups (Golkar) Party chairman. The decision was taken after receiving advice from senior Golkar politicians.
"In order to preserve the spirit of reconciliation and maintain the unity of the party, I decided to end my bid for Golkar Party chairman for 2019-2024 period," the Golkar Party lawmaker said here on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.
He hopes that his decision can help maintain the party's unity. He urged his supporters to reconcile with other party members.
"We no longer have Bamsoet's side or Airlangga Hartarto's side. We all support Golkar and Indonesia," he stressed.
The Tenth National Congress will take place on 3-6 December 2019. One agenda of the congress will be the election of the party’s leadership.
Besides Airlangga and Bamsoet, seven Golkar politicians have announced their bid for Golkar leadership. They are Ridwan Hisjam, Ali Yahya, Achmad Annama, Indra Bambang Utoyo, Agun Gunandjar Sudarso, Derek Lopatty and Aris Mandji.
