Jakarta: The Jakarta Metro Police has confirmed that 47 thousand security personnel will guard the announcement of presidential election dispute ruling that is scheduled to take place tomorrow.
"We will deploy as many as 47 thousand military and police personnel. They will guard the Constitutional Court (MK), the General Elections Commisison (KPU) and the Elections Supervisory Board (Bawaslu)," Jakarta Metro Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono said here on Wednesday.
"13 Thousand military and police personnel will be deployed around the MK building. They will directly guard the event," he noted.
Indonesia held its first ever simultaneous general and presidential elections on April 17. Voters elected the president, vice president as well as members of national and local legislative bodies on the same day.
KPU concluded the vote recapitulation process at the national level on May 21. The agency named incumbent President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo as the winner of this year's presidential race.
Not long afterwards, presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto expressed his rejection to the KPU's official tabulation result. Few days later, the opposition camp filed a legal challenge over accusations of extensive and systematic fraud in the presidential election.
According to KPU, Jokowi gathered 85,607,362 votes or 55.5 percent of the votes. On the other hand, Prabowo collected 68,650,239 votes or 45.5 percent of the votes.
In order to run for president, Jokowi was endorsed by PDIP, Golkar Party, PKB, PPP, NasDem Party, Hanura Party, PSI, PKPI and PBB. In the meantime, Prabowo was supported by Gerindra Party, Democratic Party, PKS, PAN and Berkarya Party.
