Jakarta: The government plans to build a new basketball arena. It is one of the requirements to co-host the 2023 Basketball World Cup.
"The president has promised to build a new basketball arena," Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) chairman Danny Kosasih said at Presidential Palace Complex here on Tuesday, February 18, 2020.
According to him, the International Basketball Association (FIBA) asked Indonesia to prepare an 8,000-seat arena. As of now, the largest basketball arena in Indonesia is Istora which can only accomodate around 7,000 seats.

"We hope we can build a 15-20 thousand-seat arena," Kosasih stated.
Held in September 2023, Indonesia will co-host the 2023 Basketball World Cup with the Philippines and Japan. Besides Jakarta, the tournament will be held in Bocaue, Quezon City, Pasay, Pasig and Okinawa.
It is the first Basketball World Cup to be hosted in Indonesia. It is expected that there will be 32 teams in the tournament.
