Jakarta: General Elections Commission (KPU) chairman Arief Budiman has said that candidate registration for the 2020 simultaneous regional elections may open in February-March 2020.
"The campaign period is proposed to take place from July 1 until September 19," the KPU leader said here on Monday.
"We have also proposed September 23 as the voting day," he added.
On Monday afternoon, the House of Representatives Commission II overseeing home affairs hosted a hearing on the 2020 simultaneous regional eelctions. Besides KPU, the House Commission II also invited the Elections Supervision Board (Bawaslu) and the Home Affairs Ministry.
Next year, the fourth simultaneous regional elections will held in the country. According to KPU, the votes will be held to elect nine governors, 37 mayors and 224 regents accross the country.
Indonesia held a simultaneous general and presidential elections on April 17. Voters elected the president, vice president as well as members of national and local legislative bodies on the same day.
KPU concluded the vote recapitulation process at the national level on May 21. The agency named incumbent President 'Jokowi' Widodo and his running mate Ma'ruf Amin as the winners of this year's presidential race.
The Contistutional Court (MK) announced its ruling on presidential election dispute on June 27. MK judges rejected Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno presidential pair's legal challenge in its entirety.
According to KPU, Jokowi and Ma'ruf bagged 85,607,362 votes or 55.5 percent of the votes. On the other hand, Prabowo and Sandiaga collected 68,650,239 votes or 45.5 percent of the votes.
